NOW LET'S MOVE TO THE ACTIVITIES IN THE STUDENTS' BOOK

ACTIVITY 1
Look at the pictures of the books below.

hen asnwer these question:
  1. What kind of books are they?
  2. Have you read any of them?
  3. Did you like it? What do you think about the book(s)?
  4. What is your favorite book? What is it about? What kind of book is it?

Types of Books

  1. Fiction (a made-up story – a story that did not actually happen in real life. These stories are derived from the imagination and creativity of the authors and are not based on facts.)
    The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, 1984 by George Orwell, Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling are some of the examples of fiction books.

  2. Nonfiction (factual books. Unlike fiction books, they are based on facts and information that can be verified to be true.)
    The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin by Benjamin Franklin, How to Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie, an encyclopedia, etc.

Hyphen noun US   /ˈhɑɪ·fÉ™n/ mark (-) used to join two words together, or to show that a word continues on the next line.

  • Book 2. Chicken Soup for Teenage Soul on Love and Relationship, compiled by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hanson and Kimberly Kirberger.
  • Book 3. The Girl with 500 Middle Names.

ACTIVITY 5

Do the following:
  • Choose one of the book reviews in activity 3.
  • List the adjectives in the bubbles, separating one-word adjectives from two-words adjectives.
  • Note that the two-words adjectives are compound adjectives. Use hypen in between the words.

ACTIVITY 6

This activity focuses on the vocabulary Students can use when expressing their feeling about a story and describing the story itself.
  • Refer to the the reviews in the activity 3.
  • Fill the grid with words to express Students' feeling and to describe the story in the columns provided.

ACTIVITY 11
Look at the books below.
Discuss with students in class:
  • what the books might be about.
  • how the stories will develop
  • do you like them or not.
Use the words in the activity 5 and activity 6 to describe the books.

ACTIVITY 12
This activity gives Students the opportunity to review a story of their own choice.
  • Pick a story (book or short-story)
  • Remember to get a photograph of the book/short story you choose.
  • Then fill out the book review form below. 
  • Write a story review based on the form.
